FIRST, or For Inspiration and
Recognition of Science and Technology
is a non-profit organization that gathers high school students all
over the nation to design and build a robot that meets the criteria
for the annual FIRST robotics competition. It incorporates the
ideals of teamwork, cooperation, and organization, and also teaches
kids about engineering, technology, business, marketing, and
collaboration.
The true meaning of FIRST lies in teamwork, cooperation,
and leadership. The bonds between the members, formed through
late nights, early mornings, phone chains, e-mails, and
Robotics-related dinners and events have grown intense.
Without the trust that developed because of the punctuality,
dedication, and loyalty that effective communication brings,
it would have been impossible to accomplish what we have.
Participation in FIRST Robotics has been a life-changing
experience for all those involved. Upholding gracious
professionalism, students asked for help and gave it openly.
By working under pressure to meet deadlines, considering others,
defending ideas, admitting to mistakes, and in the end collaborating
on the best solutions, members have realized that life is not
always about personal success. Everyone has flourished individually
but it has been directed towards the team's overall achievement.
